Mission Statement

The University of Maryland Moot Court Team is dedicated to developing thoughtful, ethical, and effective appellate advocates through rigorous legal analysis, persuasive writing, and oral advocacy. We foster a collaborative and supportive environment that values mentorship, teamwork, and personal growth, preparing members not only for success in competition, but for leadership and critical thinking beyond the courtroom.

Get to Know Us

Members of the University of Maryland Moot Court Team compete in the American Moot Court Association (AMCA), the nation’s largest undergraduate moot court competition. Each season, competitors receive a constitutional law case packet and prepare both written and oral arguments addressing complex legal issues. Students research relevant case law, develop legal arguments, and write appellate-style briefs that are evaluated by judges and legal professionals.

In addition to brief writing, competitors participate in oral argument rounds where they present their cases before panels of judges and respond to challenging questions about their legal reasoning. Throughout the season, members practice and refine their arguments with teammates and coaches in preparation for regional and national AMCA competitions. Through this process, students gain practical experience in legal analysis, persuasive writing, and public speaking.
